Justin Trudeau could be shifting focus from guns to his next big grab… lawnmowers.
The Federal government has set out to create a national database of private lawn and garden equipment, a move that could be a pre-cursor to a nationwide ban on gas-powered yard equipment.
The government is currently seeking a vendor to perform surveys and create an inventory of “small mobile outdoor power equipment” on behalf of Environment Canada.
As Sheila Gun Reid of Rebel News points out, banning gas-powered lawn equipment has become a trend in North America under the guise of environmental and noise concerns.
At least 19 cities in California have banned gas-powered leaf blowers while Washington, DC is phasing them out by 2025.
In Canada, Westmount, Quebec, limits the use of leaf blowers to specific hours and they can only be used during two limited stretches of the year. Victoria, British Columbia, is phasing gas-powered small engine equipment form the municipality’s inventory.
The city of Toronto is debating a ban on two-stroke lawn equipment within city limits.
Will banning lawnmowers, leaf blowers and weed wackers save the planet? When will Canadian political parties start asking China and India to cut down on their emissions?
