Leaked screenshots of chat messages appear to show RCMP officers celebrating an elderly woman being trampled by a police horse.
While many Canadians were shocked at police action and aggression used to break up the peaceful Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa this past weekend, officers in the capital called themselves heroes and celebrated putting an elderly woman in the hospital.
“That is awesome,” said one officer. “We should practice that manoeuvre.”
“Agreed. That’s what we need to do!” said another.
“We only think we’re living the dream,” claimed another.
The comments of these officers were obviously disturbing enough for someone in the private group chat to share publicly.
The duties of police in Canada have been repeatedly questioned over the past few years. Police are sworn to serve and protect the public and obey lawful orders. Many in the Freedom movement consider recent police orders unlawful as they enforce the will of politicians to remove the Charter Rights of Canadians.
While the public and police may be mixed on what orders are lawful and unlawful, the comments of the officers in the chat is inexcusable.
Here’s the recap with the video of the lady being trampled. Screenshots of the chats below:
