Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre sounded off on the Liberal governments’ continued delay on delivering documents crucial to the WE scandal investigation.
In a heated rant on Monday, Poilievre attacked the Liberals for what he claims is obvious obstruction. Poilievre, the Shadow Minister of Finance, discussed how the Liberals have used the past five weeks to paralyze the Parliamentary Finance Committee by giving 30 hours of speeches on everything but issues currently affecting Canadians.
Speech topics included the Christian bible, Jewish Torah, scripts of the Quran, Greek philosophers and a popular childhood tv character, Polkaroo.
“Imagine you’re a small business owner and you turn on television to find out what the finance committee is doing to save your business and you see a Liberal MP giving an extensive speech about the cartoon character, Polkaroo, in order to run down the clock so no-one can see what’s behind the black ink on those WE documents,” said Poilievre. “That’s the priority of this government.”
Poilievre’s comment was technically incorrect, Polkaroo is not a cartoon. But his disgust regarding the 171,000 words spoken is useless speeches remains the same.
Poilievre mentioned Canada’s skyrocketing unemployment rate, lack of help for small businesses and inability of the federal government to table a budget as failings of the current government during this crisis.
“We have people that are losing their livelihoods, losing their retirements, losing everything,” he said. “Now, you think the government would be focused on that problem. Well, you would be wrong.”
